Fastest ESD problem fix – Taking a product release off hold
Fixing broken designs is part of Sofics’ core competency. A customer came to us with an issue in a 0.13um product manufactured in a mainstream foundry. All normal operational specs were met, and they were ready to launch their product, but its ESD protection kept failing. Sofics was asked to fix the issue, if possible, in no time.
We reviewed the customer’s data, did a TLP analysis on available samples, and studied the layout. We quickly identified the issue: a clamp which was improperly designed for the given ESD window – a diagnosis that could not have been made based on the foundry’s available ESD rules and information.
We fixed the issue and the IC went straight in production. The product passed all ESD levels. It took the team less than 3 weeks from signing the contract to updating and releasing the product – a product which went on to win an important award in its application field.
